Impellers are single-suction, mixed-flow design with large passageways, vanes with blunt well-rounded leading edges and a thick hydrofoil shape preventing long stringy material from wrapping around the leading edge. This design assures passage of large solids and long stringy materials, and reduces turbulence and radial and bending shaft forces. Conservative bearing ratings and oversized shafts are designed for low radial stress to reduce shaft deflection and ensure years of reliable, trouble-free service under any load during abnormal conditions.
Material of construction include cast iron volutes, cast iron or bronze impellers and carbon steel pump shaft. Shafts can be sealed by either packing or mechanical seals.
Vertical close-coupled angleflow solids-handling pumps are driven by vertical solid-shaft motors flexibly coupled to the pump shaft. This configuration locates the driver directly above the pump and eliminates the requirement for intermediate shafting.
