Applications ... Fairbanks Morse vortex solids-handling and sludge pumps have proven experience in pumping of solids, slurries, sludge, pulp, trash, sewage and grit. These pump are specifically designed to pass solids, sludge, grit, trash and long stringy materials.
Vortex solids-handling and sludge pumps can be found in sewage and raw water lift stations, many unattended, which require utmost reliability and freedom from clogging or other downtime maintenance. Plants demand pumps to provide sustained high performance, the best possible design to resist clogging, and minimum size driving motors and controls to reduce construction and operation costs. Sewage and wastewater treatment plants and industrial plants where solids handling service is required are other typical installations.
The successful application of vortex solids-handling and sludge pumps requires the consideration of many elements. In addition to knowing the capacity and discharge head requirements, other factors which need to be evaluated include:
Other considerations include:
Features... Parameters of vortex solids-handling and sludge pumps require the units to be available in configurations to meet user needs. Fairbanks Morse meets these demands by providing vortex solids- handling and sludge pumps in 4" and 6" diameter discharge sizes. Units are available in vertical, vertical close-coupled and horizontal mounting configurations.
Impellers are semi-open statically balanced vortex design with repelling vanes on the back impeller shroud to reduce stuffing box pressure and balance axial loading. With the impeller recessed out of the fluid flow channel the design assures passage of large solids and long stringy materials. Conservative bearing ratings and oversized shafts are designed for low radial stress to reduce shaft deflection and ensure years of reliable, trouble-free service under any load during abnormal conditions.
Material of construction include cast iron or stainless steel volutes and impellers and alloy steel shaft. Shafts are sealed by either packing or mechanical seals.
Vortex solids-handling and sludge pumps are driven by standard NEMA motors of either the vertical or horizontal type depending on the pump mounting configuration.
Our special services ... at Fairbanks Morse we will design, research, test and manufacture vortex solids-handling and sludge pumps for special requirements. In many cases our standard pumps can be easily modified to meet these special requirements.
